Charolais

A breed imported from France - in Israel from 1965 for cross breeding with mixed cows ( F1,F2).

weight : cows: 600 - 800 Kg. bulls: 800 - 1400 Kg.

Considered as one of the best cattle meat.


Canis Lupus - WOLF

There are a few packs of wolves in the Golan heights and the Galilee. They are protected animals and it is forbidden to hunt them even though they cause damage to cattle herds.

Researchers are looking for ways to neutralize them without killing them.

An area in the Western Galilee with a very dense vegetative cover. This is an aerial infrared photograph showing vegetation as red spots.

Hordeum Bulbosum

Wild Barley. It is a perrenial grass which regenerates annually from thickened corms (bulbs) just below the soil surface. An important component of natural pastures.

This is an infrared aerial photograph of the Karei-Deshe range station. The intensity of the red color gives an indication of the quantity of vegetative cover.

Local breed

The local breed is F1(first generation offspring) of a Local Arab breed as a mother - and a European or American breed father.

The weigth of the Local Arab Breed cow is 200 - 250 Kg.

The weigth of the F1 Local Breed cow is 300 - 380 Kg.

Psoralea bituminosa

An important component of the pastures in the Karei-Deshe region. The cattle will eat this species only when more palatable plants are in scarce supply.

An spiny plant, highly resistant under the local environmental conditions. Spoils natural pasture.

Triticum dicoccoides

Wild emmer wheat. A tall, large-seeded annual grass which is abundant and locally dominant in lightly grazed areas. an important component of local pastures.

Trifoliium sp.

There are about 200 kinds of wild clover species, some of them annuals and others perrenial. They are very important components of natural pastures because of their high protein content and nitogen-fixation properties.
